The Regional District is proposing to expand zoning regulations within Electoral Area “G” by introducing new Conservation Area (CA) and Parks and Recreation (PR) Zones.

This zoning is proposed to be applied to lands which are currently designated as Conservation Area (CA) and Parks and Recreation (PR) under the Electoral Area “G” Official Community Plan (OCP) Bylaw No. 2975, 2022.

Amendments are also being proposed to the Electoral Area “G” OCP Bylaw to reflect the acquisition of five parcels near Keremeos Columns Provincial Park by a land conservation organization. Specifically, it is being proposed that the land use designation of these parcels be changed to Conservation Area (CA) under the OCP Bylaw.

Conservation Area (CA) Zone

The CA Zone is proposed to be applied to lands designated as CA under the Electoral Area "G" OCP Bylaw that are preserved and protected for its unique natural value, land left in a natural or semi-natural state for the purpose of conserving plant life and providing habitat for wildlife or fish.

Lands designated as CA typically include Crown lands which have been designated as Ecological Reserve or Wildlife Management Areas, but also apply to privately owned lands that have been acquired or donated for conservation purposes and which are held by an individual or an organization (e.g., Nature Trust of BC, Nature Conservancy of Canada, Southern Interior Land Trust, etc.).

Parks and Recreation (PR) Zone

The PR Zone is proposed to be applied to lands designated as PR under the Electoral Area "G" OCP Bylaw that are publicly owned and utilized for leisure and recreation activities, as well as Crown lands, lands owned by the Regional District, and lands/general areas that the Regional District may have an interest in for future park or trail use.
