The plan is now complete! But the work has only just begun…

At the April 16, 2015 meeting, the RDOS Board endorsed the final draft of the Okanagan-Similkameen Transit Future Plan. The plan is designed to support local community goals and objectives, such as strengthening the link between transportation and land use in order to support sustainable growth. Your completed Regional District of Okanagan and Similkameen Transit Future Plan will guide “everything transit” in the region over the next 25 years. You can now access the full plan or the Executive Summary.

What is a Transit Future Plan?

A 25-year plan that envisions what the transit network will look like and describes the steps needed to achieve this vision.

  • Guides and prioritizes future investment in the transit systems
  • Sets ridership targets
  • Identifies key transit corridors and the supporting local transit network
  • Identifies the fleet, service hours and infrastructure needed to support the transit network

Why do we need one for the South Okanagan and Similkameen?

  • Needs are evolving and transit should be responsive to those needs.
  • Regional and local demands require a more comprehensive approach guide investments over the long term.
  • Transit is an important component in supporting local transportation plans to improve transportation options and reduce automobile dependency.
  • Transit Future Plans are a key tool to implement the Provincial Strategic Transit Plan and are being developed for communities across the province.
  • Transit Future Plans support local and regional land use objectives and decision-making.

Hope to see you on the bus!
