RDOS directors travel to the Town of Princeton for board meeting and mine tour
The regular meeting of the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) Board of Directors was held in the Town of Princeton on Thursday, May 22, 2205. The meeting took place at the Princeton & District Community Skills Centre.
“Hosting board meetings in other communities presents many opportunities,” said Mark Pendergraft, RDOS chair. “It allows more people to see the regional government process in person and gives directors a chance to learn more about other communities.”
You can watch recordings of RDOS board meetings on the RDOS YouTube channel.
Earlier in the day, a group of RDOS directors and senior staff joined Bob Coyne (Electoral Area “H” director) and Spencer Coyne (Princeton mayor) for a tour of Copper Mountain Mine. Gary Elliott, Keremeos councillor, also joined the tour, which highlighted key elements of mining operations.
Copper Mountain Mine was commissioned in 2011 and sold to Hudbay Minerals in 2023. The mine has approximately 700 direct jobs and ships copper concentrate to Japan where it is refined for use in various products, including mobile phones and electrical appliances. The mine site has been in operation for more than 100 years. May is Mining Month in B.C.
