Online feedback for Similkameen Recreation Centre arena replacement concepts

News Article

INFORMATION RELEASE

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) recently hosted an open house to share information and gather feedback on proposed concept plans for the Similkameen Recreation Centre’s outdoor arena replacement and conceptual design project.

If you were unable to attend the open house event on Thursday, February 29, 2024, you’re invited to view the conceptual plans and provide feedback through the RDOS Regional Connections interactive website at rdosregionalconnections.ca. Public feedback will be open on the page from now until Sunday, March 31, 2024.

“I’ve been very pleased with the momentum of the Similkameen Recreation Centre in the past two years and look forward to engaging with the community on this project to best support their needs,” said Tim Roberts, Electoral Area “G” Director.

Project background

In 2021, the RDOS determined the outdoor ice rink was reaching its operational end of life due to deteriorating brine lines and would likely reach critical failure any year now. The RDOS is working with a consultant to evaluate arena replacement possibilities and costs and to explore options for potential enhancements and future development on-site.

The objectives of the Similkameen Recreation Centre outdoor arena replacement and conceptual design project are to elevate the user experience when using the outdoor arena, improve the multi-functional asset that can be used year-round, and meet the needs and expectations of a growing local community.
