Alternative Approval Process for Mosquito Control Bylaw amendment

News Article

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) Board is seeking elector support for the adoption of Bylaw No. 3003, 2023 through an Alternative Approval Process (AAP). The amendment would expand the Mosquito Control Service to include Electoral Area “E” (Naramata), the Village of Keremeos, and the Town of Princeton, making it a regional service.

Alternative Approval Processes enable local governments to directly engage citizens about new or amended bylaws. In this case, voters can indicate whether they are against the Regional District’s proposal to expand the Mosquito Control Service across the region. If ten percent of eligible voters sign and submit official opposition forms (also called Elector Response Forms), a referendum is required before the Regional District can proceed with the proposal. Residents who support the proposal do not need to take action.

If you would like to register your objection to Bylaw No. 3003, 2023, please submit a signed Elector Response Form to the RDOS office at 101 Martin Street, Penticton before the deadline of Monday, June 26, 2023, at 4:30 pm. Forms are available on the RDOS Regional Connections Alternative Approval Process page.
