September 30 marks National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day, a time to honour the children who never returned home from residential schools, recognize the strength and resilience of Survivors, and acknowledge the enduring impacts felt by Indigenous families, communities, and Nations across generations. 

The day invites Canadians to deepen their understanding of the truths of our shared history and to reflect on the role each of us can play in advancing reconciliation. Through listening, learning, and building respectful relationships, we can help create communities where Indigenous voices, cultures, and perspectives are recognized, valued, and supported.

"Truth and Reconciliation asks more of us than remembrance," said Campbell Watt, Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) Vice-chair. "It asks us to listen, learn, and act with purpose. The RDOS values its relationships with First Nations and remains committed to fostering understanding, strengthening partnerships, and supporting reconciliation through meaningful actions.”

Some RDOS offices will be closed on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, in observance of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

• Okanagan Falls Community Services, 1109 Willow Street, Okanagan Falls: closed Wednesday, September 30

RDOS Landfills: Wednesday, September 30, 2026

• Campbell Mountain Landfill: open from 8:30 am to 4:45 pm
• Keremeos Transfer Station: open from 8:30 am to 4:15 pm
• Okanagan Falls Landfill and Oliver Landfill: closed

RDOS Recreation Centres: Wednesday, September 30, 2026

• Similkameen Recreation Centre office: closed
  The recreation centre will open for bookings, and the gym will be open for pass-holders
• Okanagan Falls Recreation Centre: closed

RDOS offices and facilities will return to regular operating hours on Thursday, October 1, 2025.
