Emergency Support Services (ESS)

Reception Centre Closure

The ESS Reception Centre in Penticton closed on August 28, 2026, at 4:00 pm.

Residents requiring assistance can continue to contact ESS:

  • 1-800-387-4258 (7:30 am to 5:00 pm daily)
  • 250-486-1890 (10:00 am to 4:00 pm daily)

Recovery Services

Recovery Information Centre

The Recovery Information Centre at the George Ryga Arts and Cultural Centre concluded operations on August 28, 2026.

Bald Ridge Wildfire Recovery Centre

Beginning Tuesday, September 1, 2026, recovery services will be available at:

Giant's Head School
1053 Prairie Valley Road, Summerland

  • Tuesday to Saturday
  • 10:00 am to 5:00 pm

Ash Sifting Program

Samaritan's Purse Canada

Samaritan's Purse Canada will be offering ash sifting support for property owners affected by the wildfire.

Samaritan's Purse is currently transitioning from operations in Clinton, BC, and is expected to arrive in Summerland later this week. Advance registration is encouraged for those interested in participating.

Support for Families

Free Wildfire Recovery Webinar

Families affected by recent wildfires are invited to attend a free online webinar focused on supporting children and families through recovery.

Date: September 7, 2026

Time: 6:30 pm

Featuring:

  • Dr. Vanessa Lapointe, Child Development Expert
  • Carmen Ohori, Counsellor

Topics include:

  • Coping with wildfire impacts
  • Evacuation and displacement
  • Supporting children during recovery
  • Returning to daily routines

Registration is available through Eventbrite.

Donations: 

  • Emergency Donations and Distribution Centre: OneSky Community Resources, 10121 Main Street, Summerland Monday to Friday, 9:00 am - 3:30 pm. The list of currently needed items is monitored and updated daily at oneskycommunity.com/wildfire-response/ 

  • Clothing and personal items: Free Store, 2130 Government Street, Penticton, open 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, Monday to Saturday. 

  • Clothing and bedding: Salvation Army, 2469 South Main Street, Penticton. 

  • Help Summerland is a volunteer-organized community resource for connecting people; a community board for emergency mutual aid. Anyone can post what they HAVE (shelter, food, supplies) or what they NEED.

Residents are encouraged to check the Summerland Electric Utility address map to confirm the length of a power outage before deciding whether to discard fridge or freezer contents.

Information for evacuated residents 

  • Register for ESS 

  • Residents under an Evacuation Order should register for Emergency Support Services, even if they do not need specific supports at this time. 

  • BC Evacuee Helpline: 1-800-387-4258 (7:30 am - 5:00 pm) & 250-486-1890 (10:00 am - 4:00 pm) 

RV services 

  • Midtown RV, 310 Industrial Avenue West. Sanitary disposal and potable water. Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. 

Temporary Access Pass (TAP)

  • Submission does not guarantee approval. Please wait for approval before travelling to a roadblock. Do not wait at checkpoints, as access points must remain clear for emergency responders. Reapplying will not speed up processing. Requests are prioritized based on critical need.
