EOC Update Information Release: Bald Range Wildfire (K51490), Saturday, August 8, 2026, 9:30 pm

The RDOS Emergency Operations Centre recognizes that this is an incredibly stressful and uncertain time for many residents, families, and visitors affected by the Bald Range Wildfire (K51490). Emergency response partners are working around the clock to support impacted communities and provide timely, accurate information to help keep people safe.

Latest update 

Evacuation Orders and Alerts were issued by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) and the District of Summerland on Friday, August 7 and Saturday, August 8, 2026, for the District of Summerland, Penticton Indian Band (PIB), and Electoral Area “F” in response to the Bald Range Wildfire (K51490).  

  • An Evacuation Alert was issued August 8, 2026, at 3:00 pm for Greater West Bench (Husula Highlands, Sage Mesa, West Bench and Westwood properties) and Kickininee Park (Electoral Area “F”), Brent Lake, Shingle Creek Area (Electoral Area “F”), and Farleigh Lake Road (Electoral Area “I”) 

  • Current number of RDOS properties on Evacuation Order (416), Evacuation Alert (1,100) 

  • The entire District of Summerland is on Evacuation Order (5,688 properties) 

  • Current number of PIB properties on Evacuation Order (38), Evacuation Alert (1,082)

Residents under an evacuation order should leave their properties immediately to keep safe. 

Residents under an evacuation order must evacuate to the evacuee reception centres located at:  

  1. Penticton Trade and Convention Centre, 273 Power Street, Penticton 

  1. Westbank Lions Community Hall, 2466 Main Street, West Kelowna 

  1. Chilliwack Reception Centre, 44680 Scheyey Rd, Chilliwack (10:00 am – 6:00 pm)

Residents under an Evacuation Order should register for Emergency Support Services (ESS) even if they don’t require specific supports.

Do not use Forest Service Roads to evacuate. Forest Service Road 201 is open for passenger vehicles travelling between Penticton and Kelowna. Do not rely on Google Maps; it may lead you into the fire boundaries.  For more information on highways and roads, please visit DriveBC.ca.
