New Wharf Park cenotaph will honour Naramata’s fallen while preserving existing memorial

INFORMATION RELEASE

The Village of Naramata in Electoral Area “E” is moving forward with plans to install a new cenotaph in Wharf Park to honour members of the Naramata community who gave their lives in service to their country.

The new memorial will include the names, ranks, and ages of local service members who made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as the names of individuals who were not included on the original memorial. Installation is expected to take place in the fall.

“The original cenotaph has served as a place of remembrance for generations, and we recognize its importance to the Naramata community,” said Electoral Area “E” Director Adrienne Fedrigo. “After careful consideration, it was determined that the condition of the existing memorial made relocation impractical. Instead, it will remain in its current location at Manitou Park, where it can continue to be respected and remembered.”

The new cenotaph at Wharf Park will provide an opportunity to honour those who gave their lives, while ensuring their names and stories are preserved for future generations. We are grateful to the community members and Legion representatives who have helped guide this project.

Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) staff are working with community members, including the Legion, to plan a commemoration ceremony on Remembrance Day, Wednesday, November 11, 2026.
