RDOS large item collection begins week of April 20

INFORMATION RELEASE

Large item collection is taking place during the week of April 20 – 24, 2026, for residents in Electoral Areas “A”, “B”, “C”, “D”, “E”, “F”, “G”, “I’ and the Village of Keremeos. A maximum of two (2) items will be collected per household, with each item being a maximum of 90 kgs (200 lbs).

Accepted items include:

  • Furniture such as couches, desks, chairs, entertainment centers with shelving, cat towers, and bed frame rails secured with tape
  • Mattresses and box springs - placing out a mattress and a box spring would count as 2 items
  • Certain appliances - dishwashers, microwaves, stoves, range hoods, washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners (no food left in appliances, no hot water tanks or hot tub lids)
  • Barbeques accepted when hoses, tanks, charcoal, and dripping tray are removed
  • Gym equipment
  • Area carpets with a bound edge or fringe, rolled, taped securely, under 6 feet (1.8 metres)
  • Blinds that are taped securely, cords removed, and under 6 feet (1.8 metres)

 Non-accepted items include:

  • No non-tempered glass (mirrors, tabletops)
  • No electronics or small plug-in items such as TVs, computer monitors, or other electronics
  • No vacuums, carpet cleaners, fans, toaster ovens, or other small plug-in items (can be recycled at the landfill)
  • No floor or table lamps (can be recycled at the landfill)
  • No renovation or demolition waste, doors, toilets, bathroom/kitchen cabinets or fixtures
  • No hot tubs or lids, hot water tanks, flooring, heat pumps, furnace or plumbing
  • No room carpets or underlay
  • No gas, battery or electric powered equipment such as lawn mowers, power tools, or garage door openers
  • No concrete items (such as blocks, fountains, lawn or garden ornaments)
  • The Town of Osoyoos does not accept appliances containing freon (fridges, freezers, air conditioners)
  • Any item weighing over 90 kg (200 lbs)

 2026 Large Item Pickup Dates

  • Monday, April 20: Area “C”, Town of Oliver
  • Tuesday, April 21: Area “A”, Town of Osoyoos
  • Wednesday, April 22: Area “D” (Skaha East, Okanagan Falls), Area “I”
  • Thursday, April 23: Area “E”, Area “F”, Area “D” (Upper Carmi)
  • Friday, April 24: Area “B”, Area “G”, Village of Keremeos
  • Monday, April 13 – Friday, April 17: City of Penticton (regular curbside collection day)

 Unlimited yard waste collections begin in March or April, depending on your Area. During an unlimited yard waste collection event, residents can roll their RDOS yard waste cart to the curb in addition to an unlimited amount of kraft paper bags or clearly marked totes, cans, or carts of yard waste.

 Free ‘Yard Waste Only’ stickers are available at the RDOS Office at 101 Martin Street, Penticton, to help identify bins. Exact dates for your area can be found on your collection calendar or visit rdos.bc.ca/curbside.
