Tiger Dam unit deployed to Coalmont
News ArticleINFORMATION RELEASE
The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) has deployed a Tiger Dam flood protection unit to the community of Coalmont to strengthen emergency preparedness in the Similkameen Valley.
The Tiger Dam system is designed to safeguard critical infrastructure and priority locations in Coalmont and Kaleden. It can also be mobilized to other RDOS areas within hours, providing flexible and rapid flood response capabilities.
Earlier this spring, fire department personnel from across the region participated in hands-on training to ensure safe and effective deployment of the Tiger Dam system. The RDOS maintains an annual training and maintenance program to keep the units in a constant state of readiness.
The RDOS currently maintains two Tiger Dam units, one stationed in Tulameen and the other in Kaleden. These resources significantly enhance the region’s ability to respond quickly to flooding events across multiple communities.
The acquisition of the Tiger Dam units was made possible through a joint grant partnership between the Town of Osoyoos, the Lower Similkameen Indian Band (LSIB), the Village of Keremeos, and the RDOS.
“I am truly grateful for the collaboration amongst the Regional District communities to provide this much-needed flood mitigation equipment,” said Jody Woodford, Tulameen Fire Chief.
The RDOS remains committed to strengthening emergency preparedness and response capabilities across the region to help protect residents and infrastructure from future flooding events.
