Repairing land around a stream or waterway

You must apply for a change approval before making modifications to land, vegetation or the natural environment of a stream or the flow of water in a stream, or any activity or construction within a stream channel that has or may impact on a stream or stream channel. A stream is a natural watercourse, including natural glacier course, or a natural body of water, whether or not the stream channel of the stream has been modified, or a natural source of water supply.

Red Placard status

While conducting the Rapid Damage Assessments, some properties received Red Placards. This means the property was determined to have significant damage or a site hazard exists that is serious enough to restrict re- entry. This may include damage to key support elements that will require a more in-depth review by a structural and/or geotechnical engineer to determine that the home is safe to enter.

Each situation will have unique requirements. Engaging with both the RDOS Building and Planning Department and is key to resolving these challenges. Please contact the RDOS by phone at 250.490.4126  or by email planning@rdos.bc.ca and BuildingInspection@rdos.bc.ca with Red Placard status in the subject line to  arrange a time for a call or meeting with relevant staff.
