EOC Update: Thomas Creek and Brenda Creek wildfire status

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) continues to work with BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) to monitor the Thomas Creek wildfire in Electoral Area D, and Brenda Creek wildfire in Electoral Area H.

Both fires are listed as interface fires on the BCWS website and Evacuation Alerts remain in place for 704 properties in Electoral Area D, and 42 properties are under Evacuation Order in Electoral Area H.

Brenda Creek

The Evacuation ORDER and State of Local Emergency for Headwaters, in Electoral Area H remains in effect. BCWS has reported less vigorous activity over night. The RDOS continues to monitor the situation and work with BCWS, the Central Okanagan Regional District and the Thompson Nicola Regional District. Please avoid camping or recreational activities near the area.

An Evacuation ALERT was issued on Thursday, July 15. The Evacuation Alert zone within the RDOS includes the following provincial parks: Eneas Lakes, Pennask Lake, Trepanier, and Pennask Creek. There are no properties or parcels sited within the Evacuation Alert zone.

In order to assist with BCWS crew operations, road closures are in effect at the following locations:

  • Intersection of Trout Creek Forest Service Road and Princeton-Summerland Road
  • Intersection of Headwaters Road and Brenda Mine Road
  • Intersection of Sunset Road and Highway 97C

Thomas Creek

BCWS has reported an estimated size of 5,500 hectares. Residents on Evacuation ALERT should be prepared to leave their homes on short notice. The Okanagan Falls boat launch remains closed until further notice in order to assist with BCWS operations. An area restriction notice remains in place.
