Tree Fruit Pest Control

To protect the commercial fruit industry in the South Okanagan and Similkameen, the R.D.O.S. has renewed its Noxious Insect Control Bylaw, Bylaw no. 2070, to ensure better control of fruit tree pests in Areas A,B,C,D,E,F,G and the Town of Oliver.

Fruit tree owners are responsible for controlling fruit tree pests such as Western Cherry Fruit Fly, Peach Twig Borer, and leafrollers on their properties. It is very important that these pests are prevented from affecting nearby neighbours and professional growers.

The R.D.O.S. has dedicated staff members to follow up on complaints of fruit tree pest infestations by first verifying the infestation, then informing property owners of their obligations under the bylaw and ensuring their compliance.

Acceptable pest control methods are available at the British Columbia Ministry of Agriculture website at: www.agf.gov.bc.ca/cropprot/tfipm/treefruitipm.htm
