Increased drop-offs at Campbell Mountain Landfill following bottle depot closure
News ArticleINFORMATION RELEASE
Following the recent closure of the J&C Bottle Depot in Penticton, the Regional District of Okanagan‑Similkameen (RDOS) is seeing increased activity at the Campbell Mountain Landfill.
The landfill is currently experiencing a significant increase in residential recycling drop-offs, including cardboard, glass, flexible plastics, styrofoam, electronics, and other accepted materials. There has also been a noticeable increase in paint drop-offs.
Residents are reminded that the limit for household hazardous waste, e.g., paint, is a maximum of 25 litres by container volume per day. A 30-litre container cannot be accepted, even if it contains 25 litres or less of waste.
Arrangements have been made to support consistent service during this period of increased demand. Residents are asked to plan their visits accordingly, allow extra time, and be patient while waiting to drop off materials.
The RDOS appreciates your cooperation as staff manage higher-than-usual volumes at the site.
