News ArticleINFORMATION RELEASE
The Regional District of Okanagan‑Similkameen (RDOS) will be proceeding with an off-leash dog park trial at Wharf Park in Naramata (Electoral Area “E”). The trial will be monitored throughout its duration to assess community use, impacts, and overall effectiveness.
Off-leash dog park trial details
Location: Wharf Park, Naramata
Trial period: Sunday, March 1 to Thursday, December 31, 2026
“The survey results clearly showed that many residents are interested in having a dedicated off-leash space for dogs in Naramata,” said Adrienne Fedrigo, Electoral Area “E” director. “This trial allows the RDOS to respond to that interest while carefully monitoring how the park is used and ensuring it continues to serve the broader community.”
Implementation of the off-leash dog park trial will include the installation of signage at three entrances to Wharf Park, outlining expectations. RDOS Parks staff will relocate a dog bag dispenser to support responsible pet ownership and maintain site cleanliness.
To ensure the park remains safe and welcoming for all users, the following expectations will apply during the trial period:
- Dogs must be under control at all times
- Dog owners are required to pick up after their pets
- Aggressive dogs must be removed immediately
- Dogs must be leashed outside the designated leash‑optional area
Residents with general questions or concerns are encouraged to contact parks@rdos.bc.ca. Please share your feedback with the RDOS throughout the trial period, as this input will help inform future decisions regarding off-leash dog park opportunities in the community.
Project background
The Naramata Dog Parks Survey was conducted to gauge interest in a future dog park or similar space in Naramata. Results indicated a strong level of support for an off-leash dog park within the community. Wharf Park was identified by residents and RDOS staff as the most suitable location for a trial.
At its January 26, 2026, meeting, the Naramata Parks and Recreation Commission passed a resolution supporting an off-leash dog park trial at Wharf Park. Based on this direction, the RDOS will move forward with a trial period to evaluate how the space is used and its overall impact.
