High Streamflow Advisory - Coldwater River, Similkameen River, and Skagit River
Issued: 1:00 PM March 19, 2026
The River Forecast Centre is issuing a High Streamflow Advisory for:
• Coldwater River and surrounding areas
• Similkameen River and tributaries, including upstream Tulameen River
• Skagit River and surrounding areas
Weather Synopsis:
A multi-day atmospheric river continues to impact British Columbia and Washington State. Although the coast is receiving the brunt of the storm, there is potential for significant spillover precipitation into the Skagit, Similkameen, and Coldwater watersheds. Precipitation totals for this region from midday Thursday (March 19) through Friday afternoon (March 20) may be up to 50-80 mm, with heavier totals possible at higher elevations (e.g., North Cascades).
The River Forecast Centre continues to monitor the conditions and will provide updates as conditions warrant.

A High Streamflow Advisory means that river levels are rising or expected to rise rapidly, but that no major flooding is expected. Fast-flowing bodies of water increase risk to life safety. Minor flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
A Flood Watch means that river levels are rising and will approach or may exceed bankfull. Flooding of areas adjacent to affected rivers may occur.
A Flood Warning means that river levels have exceeded bankfull or will exceed bankfull imminently, and that flooding of areas adjacent to the rivers affected will result.
