RDOS volunteer focus | Inaugural Pitch In Event

News Article

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) is shining a spotlight on April’s volunteers who participated in the inaugural RDOS Regional Volunteer Pitch-In April 22-24. Events took place across the region and coincided with National Volunteer Week (NVW).

More than 50 individual volunteers including representatives from three schools, participated in this year’s event. The slogan for NVW 2021 is “The Value of One. The Power of Many,” which was evident in the various communities where Pitch-In events took place. Supplies were provided by the RDOS and participants were able to make light work of an otherwise overwhelming task, while respecting COVID-19 protocols.

Participating communities included Similkameen, Okanagan Falls, Kaleden, Greater West Bench, and Naramata. Two bins full of litter and debris were collected within a couple of hours, leaving local streets clean and clear.

“Volunteerism plays a vital role in building and maintaining social well-being,” says RDOS Chair Karla Kozakevich. “During these challenging times, it is more important than ever to have caring individuals willing to lend their time and talents.”

Volunteerism plays a critical role in helping the RDOS to support healthy individuals and communities. For further information about volunteering with the RDOS, please contact Nancy Wigley or visit: https://www.rdos.bc.ca/newsandevents/employment-opportunities/
