Kaleden FireSmart chipping and bin event
News ArticleThe Kaleden FireSmart Board is hosting a free chipping event on Saturday, May 15, 2021. The event takes place from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department training ground located at the top of Dogwood Avenue, in Electoral Area “I”.
Changes made to the areas closest to your home will have the greatest impact on reducing the risk of wildfire damage. Neighbours are encouraged to work together to limb, trim, rake, thin and haul flammable debris to the chipper and bin for proper disposal.
Only the following items will be accepted:
- For the wood chipper: small trees, branches, willows
- For the bin: pine needles, cones, small shrubs, tumbleweeds, long grasses
Being FireSmart is a shared responsibility and we all have a role to play in reducing the wildfire threat. “This chipping event is the result of local volunteers including the Kaleden FireSmart Board working together to keep the community safe,” says Area “I” Director Subrina Monteith. “Being FireSmart is an ongoing process that goes well beyond just one day.” The RDOS is encouraging residents throughout the Regional District to be proactive when it comes to the threat of wildfires.
The Kaleden FireSmart Board acknowledges the support of E-Z Bins for providing bins for grasses, Bartlett Tree Experts for providing the wood chipper, and Fortis for covering chipping costs.
