INFORMATION RELEASE

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) recently hosted a FireSmart training event to meet the increasing demand for program delivery within the Okanagan Valley. 20 firefighters attended the training event, which took place at the Okanagan Falls fire hall in Electoral Area “D”.

The four-day Wildfire Mitigation Specialist training was instructed by Kelly Johnston, Apex Fire Chief. Participants included representatives from regional and municipal fire departments and other regional government programs, including Willowbrook, Anarchist, Naramata, Oliver, Summerland, Peachland, Kelowna, Kaleden, and Princeton. The Regional District of North Okanagan and East Gate Fire Brigade also attended.

“On behalf of the RDOS Community FireSmart program, I’d like to thank Kelly Johnston for taking the time to instruct the 32-hour course,” said Hayden Zahrawi, RDOS Community Services FireSmart Coordinator. “We’d also like to thank Okanagan Falls Fire Department for hosting the course at their fire hall.”
