Business and Multi-Family Recycling
RDOS Recycling Makeover Challenge
Does your business or multi-family residential building have what it takes to become a Recycling Champion?
The RDOS Recycling Makeover Challenge will support and recognize businesses and multi-family buildings that complete a recycling makeover using the RDOS Recycling Toolkits, and demonstrate best practices for recycling. The program is running from August to October 2020.
What is a Recycling Makeover?
A Recycling Makeover is an opportunity for your business or multi-family building to assess your current waste management practices, find areas for improvement, make meaningful,
measurable change to divert more waste from the landfill, and become a Recycling Champion. There are two ways to participate:
- A on-hour onsite assessment and makeover with a specialist, including guidance on bin placement, advice on what goes where, and signage and labels for your bins.
- A Do-It-Yourself (DIY) assessment and makeover complete with a digital guide, a self-assessment checklist, and printable resources, signage and labels.
All participants that complete the program and submit evidence of their completed challenge will receive a special “Recycling Champion” window decal and certificate, a listing on the Recycling Makeover and RDOS websites, and an entry to win one of four prize packs to help improve their waste infrastructure, valued at $150 each.
Sign up now to take the challenge and become a Recycling Champion!

It has been found that landfills throughout the RDOS contain a significant amount of paper and other recyclable materials, most of which come from business and multi-family buildings. These materials break down over time and create greenhouse gases (GHG) including methane, contributing to global climate change.
Check out this Infographic on Business Waste in RDOS to see some key figures and statistics.
The RDOS has a goal to reduce GHG emissions by 10% from 2009 levels by 2020. Improving recycling rates is one of the important ways to meet this goal.
