Mission Statement
To enhance quality of life, the environment, and the level of public safety within the Regional District through efficient, cost-effective, and professional delivery of public works & engineering services.
Utilities Department
The Utilities Department has the following focus areas:
- Professional engineering advice to the Regional District Board and other departments on utility infrastructure.
- Maintain the 9 water and 2 sanitary sewer systems managed by the Regional District.
- Capital Infrastructure Upgrades for water and sewer.
- Referral group for providing input into the infrastructure requirements for subdivisions.
- Street Lights - manage street light maintenance with FortisBC in RDOS service areas.
- Mosquito and Pest Control carries out a larviciding campaign for mosquito control as well as a monitoring and enforcement program for harmful tree fruit pests such as Cherry Fruit Fly and Peach Twig Borer.
- Invasive Plant Program - partnering with Okanagan & Similkameen Invasive Species Society (OASISS) to provide biological control agents and public education programs to raise awareness of invasive species.

Solid Waste Department
Solid Waste Department Mission Statement: To provide the most effective, efficient and environmental superior means of managing solid waste reduction, reuse, recovery and refuse disposal by promoting excellence in our customer service, innovation, safety, a respectful work place, integrity and education.
The Solid Waste Department has the following focus areas:
- Solid Waste Management Planning
- Manages 3 Landfills (Campbell Mountain, Okanagan Falls, Oliver), and two Transfer Stations (Keremeos, and Apex) - see landfills
- Curbside Collection program for rural areas of garbage, recycling, yard waste and large item collection - www.rdos.bc.ca/curbside

- Capital Infrastructure upgrades for solid waste projects

What do we do? Our primary task is to provide service to our community by managing the 5 R’s of Solid Waste Management, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover, Residual Management. This occurs through our education, innovation and provision of services throughout the Regional District and its member municipalities.
