RDOS volunteer focus | Valerie Taylor
News ArticleThe Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) is shining a spotlight on March’s volunteer of the month, Valerie Taylor from Electoral Area “E”. Taylor is a fifth generation Naramata resident who boasts that volunteering “runs in the family.
In 2004, Taylor volunteered with the Naramata Volunteer Fire Department, before leaving to further her education. When she returned home to Naramata, Taylor continued volunteering with the Girl Guides of Canada and the Chefs in the Classroom Program at Naramata Elementary School. She is now leading the long-standing tradition of the ‘May Day’ event, and the RDOS is grateful for her enthusiasm in this role.
“This event is such a true joy and close to my heart,” says Taylor who has participated in the ‘May Day’ festivity for several years and is now eager to help organize it. Although the event will look different this year due to the pandemic, Taylor insists, “we still be staying true to the history of ‘May Day.’”
“Volunteerism is an important piece in building and maintaining our social well-being,” says Electoral Area “E” Director and RDOS Chair Karla Kozakevich. “During these challenging times, it is more important than ever to have caring individuals willing to lend their time and talents to assist others.”
Volunteers play a critical role in helping the RDOS support healthy individuals and communities.
