RDOS volunteer focus | Paula Marfleet

News Article

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) is shining a spotlight on January’s volunteer of the month, Paula Marfleet from Kaleden in Electoral Area “I”. Paula started out as a candy striper during her early teens. When she moved to the Okanagan five years ago, Paula discovered ways to give back to her community by volunteering with the RDOS Pitch In, Kaleden Community Church, Kaleden Seniors Committee and other groups. She also helps sort bottles at the bottle depot.

When asked why she volunteers Paula says “why not?” She enjoys meeting new people, has the time and energy to help out and she likes giving back while she can. Paula says “it’s in her DNA” and she’s passing that spirit of giving to her grandchildren, to keep volunteering in the family. “Volunteerism is part of Kaleden’s community fabric,” says Area “I” Director Subrina Monteith. “Kaleden was initially built on the backs of volunteers and continues to be driven by volunteers.”

Paula says she loves the smiles and words of gratitude volunteering brings. She also likes knowing she has played a small part in helping someone else. The RDOS appreciates the time, expertise and passion volunteers like Paula and others bring to the region. Thank you for supporting your community. Volunteerism plays a critical role in helping the RDOS support healthy individuals and communities.
