News Article

Saturday, December 4, 2021 11:00 am

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) is advising residents to be aware of the potential for hazardous road conditions. Based on available information, including weather advisories, road conditions may change quickly. The public is advised to stay clear of the fast‐flowing rivers and potentially unstable riverbanks during the high‐streamflow period.

Please check local and regional road reports on www.drivebc.ca or check with live weather cams for the most up to date information.

Before travelling, in addition to a full tank of gas and fresh anti-freeze, ensure your winter safety car kit includes:

Blankets, mittens, socks and hats

Ice scraper and snow brush

Flashlight, plus extra batteries (or a hand-crank flashlight)

Jumper cables

First-aid kit (band-aides, adhesive tape, antiseptic wipes, gauze pads, antiseptic cream, medical wrap). See a first-aid kit checklist.

Bottled water

Multi-tool

Road flares or reflective warning triangles

Windshield cleaner

Hidden Hazards

It is understandable that many residents want to clean and recover damaged properties, however there may be hazards that are not visible under the fresh snow. Ensure that you take added precautions when repairing property damage.

An Evacuation Alert prepares residents to evacuate the area should an Evacuation Order be issued. As much advance notice as possible will be provided prior to an Evacuation Order, however you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.

Tulameen Resiliency Centre

A resiliency centre will be open at the Tulameen Community Centre on Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm

The resiliency centre will be open to support residents within the area through the recovery process. This includes making connections with Emergency Support Services, Canadian Red Cross, and Disaster Financial Assistance.
