RDOS Regional Connections newsletter - July 2022

News Article

In this edition of the RDOS Regional Connections newsletter, preventing wildfires, sharing information in your community, and new Board and Committee meeting dates.

Wildfire Prevention
The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) is located within the Kamloops Fire Centre, where prohibitions for category 2 and 3 open fires are in place. The prohibitions are initiated to help prevent human caused wildfires and protect public safety. To view all bans and restrictions in British Columbia, please visit bcwildfire.ca. Open burning is not permitted within the RDOS between April 15 and October 15 each year. To find out how you and your neighbours can reduce wildfire hazards, please visit the RDOS Community FireSmart website at: https://firesmart.rdos.bc.ca/

Community Champions
During a wildfire or other emergency, the RDOS will use several methods to distribute information, including posting on the web and social media channels. The Community Champions program identifies key people within their communities who can help share accurate and timely information. This may include posting information releases on local notice boards, Facebook groups, and other social media channels. To find out how you can become a Community Champion, please contact RDOS Communications. To ensure you receive notifications about critical events via email, text, or phone, sign up for Voyent Alert! You can get more information on the RDOS website.

Upcoming Meeting Date Adjustments
The previously scheduled RDOS Board and Committee meeting date of September 15, 2022, is changed to September 22, 2022. The meeting date was changed to avoid coinciding with the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) 2022 convention. The October 13, 2022, Board and Committee meeting date is moved to October 6, 2022.

The RDOS Board of Directors meets twice per month (Thursdays), managing both rural and corporate government issues. The 2022 schedule of meetings and agendas and Webex links are posted on the RDOS website
