EOC Update: FortisBC encourages decreasing energy consumption during Nk’Mip Creek wildfire

News Article

FortisBC crews are in Osoyoos supporting local emergency services personnel as they respond to the Nk’Mip wildfire.

While the system is stable, FortisBC has de-energized parts of their electricity system. For this reason, customers in Osoyoos and surrounding areas are asked to reduce their energy use during peak hours of from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm until further notice.

Some examples of how you can reduce your energy use include:

  • Cooking outdoors on barbeques, if possible
  • Washing dishes by hand or setting dishwasher timers to run in the middle of the night
  • Running laundry later in the evening
  • Reduce air conditioning use

FortisBC thanks its customers for their support during this time. Visit fortisbc.com/forestfires for more information or direct questions to FortisBC customer contact centre at 1-866-436-7847 (electricity) and 1-88-224-2710 (natural gas).
