Terry Schafer

Terry was born in the First Nations community of Waglisla, also known as Bella Bella, and moved to the South Okanagan in Grade 2.  After graduating there and exploring all corners of BC he settled down in Oliver with his family in 1984.  Involvement in the community began with the Kinsman Club including a term as President and serving on the Mt. Baldy Ski Patrol.  He founded the local 'We Care' Society, a President's Club of non profit groups to help disadvantaged individuals and was first elected to Oliver Town Council in 1995.  He founded Music in the Park, served on many committees and co-founded and chaired the Restorative Justice program in Oliver.  Following four terms on Town Council he stayed involved as a Board member of the Oliver and District Heritage Society and as Board member and Treasurer of the Oliver Fire Protection District.  Family time, organic gardening, guitar making and experimenting with sustainable energy systems fill his 'spare' time.
