The Regional District Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) comprises 10,400 sq. km. It includes: Manning Provincial Park, Apex Mountain Ski Resort, Cathedral Provincial Park, and the communities of Penticton, Summerland, Okanagan Falls, Oliver, Osoyoos, Keremeos, Princeton and Naramata.
Trails are embedded in the culture of the Okanagan and Similkameen Valleys and a wide variety of users recreate and commute on the region's trails daily. Local area residents use the trail system for activities ranging from evening strolls along the Kettle Valley Rail Trail (KVR), to commuting to work from one community to another, to active motorized and non-motorized trail-based recreation. Highlights of the KVR include stunning vistas, an easy gradient and unique topography. Exceptionally diverse, the trails traverse ranchland, riverbanks, lakes, tunnels, trestles, desert, orchards and vineyards. The RDOS is proud to help support the KVR Rail Trail.
Since the day it was launched in 2003, the Click, Hike & BikeTM page has been one of the most popular pages on the RDOS website. In 2006 trails database and maps were updated to include changes, new trails, and new internet mapping technology.
The internet mapping site allows users to zoom into any area of the RDOS, view trails on an aerial photo base, and obtain detailed descriptions on key sections and access points. A new function gives users the ability to interactively measure how far they have travelled.
